MOVEMENT MUSIC SERIES | MATADOR

In preparation for what I hear is the coolest electronic festival around, I’m familiarizing myself with the line up. Thought I should try to bring it all to one place for you guys.

MATADOR

Richie Hawtin recently introduced the young Dubliner ahead of his first Minus event. Matador now takes the bull by the horns for his first full EP for Minus, exploring the twisted but organic techno sound he’s best known for. He’s also a trained chef! Gavin Lynch’s sound is described as a “slow building bomb” on his facebook page. Be the judge.

ROOM 8 | RIGHT WAY

It seems like lately every time I go out, someone’s telling me they’re a DJ or in a band. While I really do respect the art, and amount of work and dedication it takes to practice music (especially since I’m not capable), I have to admit I’m a bit of a music snob. Not in a o I only like obscure acts you’ve never heard of because no one is as good as the rolling stones kind of way, but I usually know if it’s gonna make me eargasm in the first 20-30 seconds, and most of the time it doesn’t.

Room 8 was a pleasant exception to the rule.

I’m not on the M83 bandwagon because I’ve seen them live, and couldn’t distinguish any of their other songs from each other, but Ian’s Young’s Sax solo made Midnight City their crown jewel, and I’m really liking this collaboration between him and Room 8.  Looking forward to the show this weekend Ezra! 🙂

For the last week or so we’ve been seeing subtle hints at something called Potato Will Eat You from these three’s social media.

I personally was hoping for the love child of Skrillex, Fools Gold and Mad Decent, destined to be on repeat for at least 3 days in my car, but yesterday we got eaten by a more visionary announcement, so kudos to these guys for looking out for the little guy.

It turns out Potato Will Eat You is a joint venture You Tube channel, where they’ll premiere new music, programs and DJ mixes. The verdict’s still out on what this will actually mean, but we got our first serving today with Diplo’s “BUTTER’S THEME” ft GENT & JAWNS.

Screw the man. Artists should rule the world.

NEW PHOENIX | ENTERTAINMENT JUST IN TIME FOR COACHELLA

Christian, Branco, Thomas and Deck.

I love these French boys, but based on this track, it sounds like their long awaited new album might sound just like their last one, which was amazing nevertheless.

Bankrupt! may not be revolutionary, but it’ll still be Phoenix. I hope they surprise us at Coachella with more. Look for it in April.
